From the Destiny Online Catalog you can access Destiny Discover. This is where you will find our Ebooks. ALL students are required to have a username and password. A shared username and password allows students to read a book online and may be used by students in any grade.
BEFORE YOU CAN READ OR CHECK OUT AN E-BOOK YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN. The SHARED USERNAME and SHARED PASSWORD maybe used by anyone, but will only allow you to read a book without checking it out.

To check out a book, you must use a unique username and password. (grades 2 - 5). Hint: Unique usernames are usually the student's last name followed by the first initial (no spaces, all lowercase). 1. Do I have to have the free Destiny Discover app installed to read books?
Answer: No. If you don't use the app you must access the books from the Destiny Discover link in the Destiny library catalog. Go to www.ssmithlibrary.weebly.com OR from the Whitehouse ISD website. Click on Parents/Students, Library Services, Destiny Online Catalogs: Stanton-Smith. Click on the Catalog tab, then select Destiny Discover on the left hand side of the page. Log in with your child's username and password or the shared username and password.
2. Why would I want to install the free app if I can read the books without it?
Answer: It is much easier to access the books without having to first go to the LRC web site. When using the app you will also have the ability to download the book and read it offline.
3. Where can I download the free Destiny Discover app?
Answer: Download the app here.
You can also log in to Destiny Discover, open a book and click on the Menu (open book icon). From there you can click on Download App.
Be sure to open the book on the device if you want to download the free app. Not all devices are compatible with the app. If your device is not listed when you click Download App, it is not currently supported. Not all features are available on all apps. For example, the read-aloud feature of most of the Ebooks is not available when reading on a tablet but is available when reading on a PC.
4. Should I check out the book or just read it online?
Answer: If there are unlimited copies you probably won’t need to check the book out. But if the number of copies is limited you should check out the book. If you log in with a unique username and password the book will automatically go to the page you were last reading, even if the book is not checked out. If you log in with the shared username and password it will not.
5. What is the difference between the e-books and interactive e-books?
Answer: The regular e-books can be checked out. The interactive e-books can only be read online. Interactive e-books have additional features.
6. How do I check out an e-book? How do I check it in?
Answer: To check out an e-book simply click on check out. (you can only check out an e-book if you logged in with your unique user name and password, not the guest user name and password). Grades 2-5 are able to check out e-books.
To check in an e-book:
Answer: Unless you want to turn the book in early, simply do nothing. The book will turn itself in on the date it is due. The checkout length is the same as it is for print books from our LRC. (1 week for 2nd grade and 2 weeks for 3rd – 5th grade).The book can’t be renewed, but you can check it in early and then immediately check it out again.
7. I checked out an Ebook. Now how do I find it?
Answer: Log in to Destiny Discover with your unique username and password. Click on Bookbag and you will see everything you have checked out. You can open the book from there.
8. I tried to check out an e-book but I got the error message: You have the maximum number of titles checked out. How can I see what e-book I have checked out so I can turn it in early?
Answer: Once you are logged in to Destiny Discover click on Bookbag in the top right-hand corner. Under checkouts you will see everything you have checked out (e-books and print).
9. I tried to open an e-book that is NOT checked out but I got the error message: This title currently has no available copies.
Answer: All this means is that there is a limited number of copies of this title and someone is reading all available titles at the moment. IF that person closes the book without checking it out, you may open it or check it out. Keep trying.
